They discussed Joan’s plans. It looked as if things were going to be easy for her. A land where man died, and vermin increased and multiplied. They discussed ways and means. Joan calculated she could get through on two hundred a year, putting aside fifty for dress. Madge was doubtful if this would be sufficient.
